Between the 1940s and 1970s, The corridor along present day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way was filled with more than 100 businesses. In the early years, Monday was the busiest shopping day because seasonal and live-in domestic workers had the day off. Currency circulated many times throughout the community.
